Canberra and the ACT
Canberra is the capital of Australia. Canberra resides in a territory called the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The ACT exists much like the District of Columbia (DC) exists.

This is the chamber of the House of Representatives. This house is where the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition can be found, along with the ministry, and the Members of Parliament of each electorate.
This is the Senate chamber. It consists of 76 Senators, twelve from each of the six states and two from each of the mainland territories. It has virtually equal power to make laws with the other House of Parliament, the House of Representatives. It is elected by proportional representation, so that its composition closely reflects the voting pattern of the electors.
